A sinus lift, also known as sinus augmentation or sinus elevation, is a surgical procedure performed by dental surgeons to increase the amount of bone in the upper jaw (maxilla) in the area of the molars and premolars.
- space above the molar and premolar is not enough because of the structure of the head
- Tooth loss over a period of time may result in absorbing the bone back into the body
- Some disease may have resulted in loss of bone
- In older age the sinus also gets larger so there is less space available for the dental implant

OPEN SINUS LIFT
A small incision is made in the gum tissue on the side of the upper jaw where the dental implant will be placed.
Using specialized instruments, our dentist will carefully lift the sinus membrane away from the underlying bone, creating a space or void beneath the membrane. Once the sinus membrane is elevated, a bone graft material is placed into the void created between the sinus floor and the elevated membrane.
After the bone graft material is placed, the incision is sutured closed, and the area is allowed to heal.
Over the next several months, the bone graft material will integrate with the surrounding bone, creating new bone growth in the area.
Once the bone graft has healed and sufficient bone volume is present, dental implant placement can be performed in the augmented area of the upper jaw.
CLOSED SINUS LIFT
A closed sinus lift, is a surgical procedure used to increase the amount of bone in the posterior maxilla (upper jaw) in preparation for dental implant placement.
Unlike an open sinus lift, which involves accessing the sinus membrane through a lateral window in the jawbone, a closed sinus lift involves lifting the sinus floor from within the implant site itself without creating a large flap or incision.
